Healey 3000 Camshaft Identification

Does anyone know what identifies the camshafts from various Healey BN6, BT7, BJ8 3000 engines etc, how could you tell if a cam was from say a Wolseley which had more or less the same engine.

In particular I would like to know how to identify a removed BJ8 camshaft.

I agree with Steve - unless like me you have something stamped on the end - in my case it is Racer Brown 17A . The car came from your side of the pond, as did the cam so at some time the cam had been reground or replaced. It certainly has work done on it, a lobe has been rebuilt either at 1 or 12 can not remember which end now, and did not take a photo. :wall:

I would think that all original cams have numbers cast into them. This should then be comparable to original part numbers as shown in the BMC parts catalogs (manufacturer's books, not Moss, VB, etc.). I am speculating, as I've never attempted to verify such (though I could probably find a cam somewhere in the shop, given the time...).

If it's a reground cam, like Bob's Racer Brown, or my own Isky, then yes, typically engraved on the end with the regrinder's part number, like mine seen below (an original cam should be plain__no engraving on end).
