Headlight rims...

The headlight rims on my '70 MGB roadster are showing a moderate amount of rust. I have a '70 MGB GT sitting right beside it and there is no rust on that car suggesting that the rusted rims are most likely cheap after market. Can they be cleaned up and if so, can they be treated with something to prevent further rust?

Cheers - Dennis

Good quality chroming has a copper backing first and then the chrome. This junk that comes from the orient usually doesn't have it. Sin of it all is, no one else is making the replacement parts.

:iagree:

The chrome on the ones I got from Moss is de-laminating...

Suppose I'm gonna have to take them to the Harley Davidson shop for a proper job.

(Those guys are good...They could probably chrome a doughnut)

Yes, by all means don't toss your originals; always better to rechrome nowadays with questionable quality of reproductions.

Don't know if they still sell it, but try Naval Jelly to get the rust off your cgrome. Believe it or not, we used to use Coca-Cola as a good substitute.
