Headlight problems on M Elan

Just got done helping a friend solve a problem and thought I'd pass on a little advice to anyone that is having any problems with popup headlights.

Seems the Lucas engineers decided to ground the motor close circuit through the headlight filaments. So when both high beams were burnt out the headlights stayed up. Or when one is burnt out it hastens the load through the other filament to ground and burns it out also.

Owner bought a no longer available headlight control module, which didn't fix the problem.

So after a little greymatter churning we figured the power/ground path out. Both headlights burnt out.

So I strongly recommend anytime you have ANY headlight problems on any Lotus to check the headlights themselves first.

Might save yourself a lot of grief and unnecessary expense.
