Headlight fit on fender

Is the rubber trim suppose to be flush with the top of the chrome trim ring or a smaller diameter and inset like in my photo. Should it be inset that much?

I've taken two photos, one attached on this post, one on the following post.

This photo shows the side view. The headlight has only been screwed in enough to hold it in.

How much space is there suppose to be around the chrome trim ring? Is what I have correct? There is more space around this left one vs. the right one.

Hi ASUMHLY, it appears that you have an aftermarket set of the rubber trim rings. The only source I know
of for the correct size is British Car Specialties in Stocton Calif. Rarely do the chrome rings and the fender out line match up it can be done with a lot of cutting and welding if desired .However I do not feel the extra effort is worth it.--Fwiw---Keoke

I agree with Keoke. The "correct" gaskets will fill the gap. See the attached pic.

I know, the chrome rings are not perfectly correct. The ones that I got with the correct rivet on top were such poor finish quality that I went back to the rivetless rings. I'll have to look around for some good quality correct rings.

Thank you Dave for taking the photo. I will show it to the body shop and see if there is anything they can do to get the headlight flusher with the top.

Thank you Keoke for letting me know where to get a better fiting seal.

Cheers r

Ausmhly, British Car Specialist has two sizes. They sent me one for my BJ8 that was small. I sent it back for the larger one that they said was for another Healey but it fit better and looks much better. Talk to Michael there (if he is still there) and ask for the larger one. The Moss one is the smaller one I think.

Thanks TH. Yup, Michael is still there. I ordered the "correct" size one from their catalog.

How lucky am I to have such knowledgeable people here to help me with the restortation of my Healey. Thank you all. Roger

Does someone have the phone number handy for British Car Specialties in Stockton, CA ? I was unable to find a web site nor any contact info on the forum.
Thanks, Ed K.
