This should be a fairly simple question....
Will TR6 headers fit on a GT6?
The GT6 headers I have been able to find seem to be overly expensive.
Or does anoyone know where to get reasonably price GT6 headers?

Mike, no, TR6 headers will NOT fit a GT6. GT6 headers are expensive because there is such a limited market for them.
As far as reasonably priced GT6 headers, I can't help you there. I know they were available from Pacesetter, but were absolute junk. Stahl Headers may be able to help, but they won't be cheap, and will probably require some modification to the frame and bell housing to work.
Or you could make your own.

Make your own. It always worked out the best that way.
 
First, remember that money spent on headers is mostly wasted unless a less restrictive exhaust system is fitted.

First, consider how your car is driven. If it's mostly for street driving, get a 6-3-1 interference design header ("extractor") that improves midrange RPM torque performance. A 6-2-1 design is generally for higher RPM ranges. A 6-1 is strictly for racing at high RPMs.

Canley Classics in England sells a high-quality 6-3-1 design header custom-made for the GT6 in stainless steel. It's certainly one of the best available. PRI sells a limited-quantity, custom made header for GT6s, but it's very pricey and probably not available right now. Spit Bits sells a GT6 header, not sure if it's 6-2-1 or 6-3-1. And, Ted Schmacher at TSI Imported Automotive may be able to help you as well, give him a call for parts and good advice.

If you fit a header, you'll have to change the carb needles and retune the engine a bit. Not difficult.

I read a lot about headers. The most impressive info I read stated that race engines drew more into the cylinders with the tuned exhaust than with the movement of the piston! I don't have a clue how all of that works; how ever, it would be nice to see real studies that conclude: bolt this on and you git 25 moe hoss'
 
I have always been confused about the claims that "header makers" profess. Equalizing the back pressure on each cylinder can help with engine balance and air flow, but the bhp claims are a little hard to swallow. Obviously, balanced air flow equates to balanced energy production, thereby reducing mechanical inefficiencies which inturn increases output (hp). Exactly how much increase is realized with a header would depend largely on the replaced system configuration and flow charateristics. It may prove counterproductive to install a header without addressing the trailing exhaust system and to fully capture all the gains a header can provide, adjustments to the intake system will need to be addressed.
 
The way I figure is with a free flowing exhaust system, and a well balanced header you can increase overall horsepower by about 3% maybe 5% but I'd say thats starting to push it some. In anything for an LBC I'd say a claim of more than 5 horsepower gain is one that cannot be demonstrated.
 
I do know a balanced set of headers give a significant boost in power in the cars I am more familiar with Mustangs, Camero's, but never had any experience with British cars.
The way the performance gains were explained to me was that following the "pressure wave" down the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manafold is an area of low pressure. On a "properly balanced" exhaust system this low pressure will actually suck more exhaust along with it. The problem is to get the exhaust balanced properly. Don't know if that's true or not, but on my SVT, I really noticed the difference..of course that was with the "butt dyno" so I can't say for sure.
I suspect Bob is right and it will problably be a waste....but like the guy said to Dirty Harry (after his famous "6 shots or only five" ramble...."I gots ta know!!".
