Head Studs

I will be running a max of 9.5:1 CR on my rebuild. I want to replace the head studs, but do not want the ARP look. Any opinions on the stock Moss ones?

Thanks

Personally I think the stock studs are fine for street engines. They worked in a bunch of engines for a long time. If you are planning on twisting it up a bit then i would probably go with the stronger studs.

The standard studs will be fine.

I would recommending the upgraded rod bolts though. Off topic I know but worth mentioning as most will tell you that rod bolts are the most stressed out components in the engine.

Hardly off topic around here, JC... and a GOOD segue, too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I use chevy big block rod bolts. Far better than the stock stuff and cheaper than buying ARP stuff for a sprite. Heck you can even buy ARP chevy rod bolts for 25 to 30 bucks and get enought to do two engines. Never had a failure in the 20 plus years I have been using them. Even with stock over the counter chevy bolts.

Oh, an the stock head studs are fine. They will work all day long....and night too. Just don't torque them past 40lbs ft. No matter what anyone else says. I have them on a 14 to 1 engine and have no problems. Don't waste your money on the hi dollar stuff.(course the secret is the extra head bolts on the 14 to 1 engine.) 9.5 to 1 is no problem with the stock head stud set-up...as long as you are not leaning engine out. The nothing will hold for long anyway.

Thanks all.

I bought the stock studs and nuts yesterday and upgraded rod bolts.

Thanks again
