Head lamp seal

I purchased s seal (part number 30 on heading "Headlamp" page)from Moss. I cannot figure out how it fits. There does not seem to be enough room and I am not sure which way is forward. I'm not sure it is even needed. It wasn't there before. Anyone use these?

It goes over the headlight/retaining ring and under the headlight trim ring.

I guess the purpose is to exclude dust (hence being called a dust excluder in some manuals) from entering the gap between the trim ring and the hdlt assembly.

I bought and installed them on my car.

It is amazing how you always learn something new. Over the past 46 years I have owned my car, I don’t remember ever seeing that seal and, obviously, having it installed on my Healey.
