Most of what I'm seeing in the forum here indicates that unless there's already some kind of head issue, or unless you're using a solid copper head gasket, no sealant is needed for a new head gasket. Sound about right?

I used a composite gasket from BPNW and specifically asked them about that and was told no sealant required for composite. Bruce

Great. Thanks. BTW, years ago I added my name to the list of Triumph mechanics who torqued their cylinder head on carefully and perfectly, but then looked at their workshop table and wondered how to force those cam lifters back down through the push-rod holes.

I didn’t do that one exactly, (though I did contemplate how to remove them without taking off the head) but it’s good to know it’s not just me. I used to think it was the several years I spent living among Haight Ashbury refugees in the Northern California redwoods in the early 70s, but my mother said I was always that way.

Wellseal...it's what the manual tells you to use. Plus, if it held the Merlin's together at 1700HP, it will certainly last forever in our 120HP wonders!
