Head gasket retorque

So.. I am about to retorque my head. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/troll.gif 948 with stock casthead and a cheepo Vic brit head gasket. stock style studs and nuts. Do I start out at say 25 - 30 and go up 5 lbs at a time to 40? I'll then readjust the valves.
 
If this is a retorque then you just go to the max number. Do NOT loosen the nuts!! This is just to snug it up.
Do follow the correct torque sequence.
