Posted this on the Triumph side but got the cold shoulder. Serves me right I guess. See if anyone here has any ideas.
"I have an opportunity to purchase a head with the casting number TKC3239. I am thinking about using this head on my Midget engine that I am in the process of rebuilding. Is there a listing of what the different casting numbers mean and what applications they were used on? I did a bit of googling and came up with the notion that this might be a head from a california spitfire. As a sidenote it listed it as "inserted" where as the high compression federal version of the head was listed as "noninserted". Wasn't sure what that meant and wondered if you guys could help me."

JC, the only thing I can think of is that "Inserted" meant it had valve seat inserts installed.
Not much, I know, and it's only a guess.

Yeah, that was about all I could think of too Jeff. I think the heads were all the same from 75 to 79 on the 1500s. The difference in compression were probably only in piston configuration but kinda wanted a second opinion. It just had me worried since it was a "spitfire" head and not a "midget" head. Semantics, I'm sure but just wasn't positive on it.
