just went through my HD8'S,came out sweet!!!
put new choke cables in also,when adj cables @ jet end [1.5mm
slack]book says as arm just engages jet lever,to set fast idle screws @ about 500rpm.this setting,with choke released,will not allow butterflies to close fully.
in all that i've read it is indicated that the first motion in choke process will address the idle,then further motion will address mixture. for some reason it's ass backward on my setup.where have i gone astray?????

Butterflies should be closed when setting Idle speed with slow Idle Adj. screws.
You may have to check timing if you can't get 500 RPM. I use a 2 Thou. feeler gauge betweem hammer and anvil to be sure choke is not causing butterflies
are not being held open when adjusting idle.

You are correct in having 1.5 - 1.6 mm slack between the choke lever and jet adjusting arm.

When you pull the choke cables that 1.5 mm, just before you move the jet levers, you set the fast idle speed to 1,000 RPM when hot.

Yeah, that is what the book says but experience has shown that in a large number of cases it is a balancing act between having a little butterfly open and properly adjusting the tick over screw.

However, the sequence is the right way around and not "ass backwards"------Keoke-- :laugh:
