HD8 shaft bushing & king pins.

Is it normal to have to replace the king pins. I noticed that Moss's front suspension repair kit includes the king pins along with the bushing etc. Mine do look bad in the bushing areas in fact I had to use heat and a press to get them apart. Do the 2" SU's have a throttle shaft bushing already in the housing or do you have to drill out the housing and install a bushing like on the 1 1/2" carbs. Thanks for your help.

John

HI John, I suspected that your king pins were frozen.I would renew the entire assembly. Regarding the HD8 carbs,in side the body surrounding the throttle shafts are a set of replaceable busings.Currently these are made out of Teflon 0.015" thick.and are included in the better rebuild kits.Never the less, if the shafts are worn they may need replacing too. I usually get the master kits and do it all.---Fwiw---Keoke

Thanks Keoke, that is what I figured and that is what I will do on both accounts. I think that is money well spent when it comes time to put this car back on the road. Have a good day!

Anthony,
I finally have the car completely dissassembled. I had to use heat and PB Blaster on at least half the parts on the car. It was a battle right to the last part but I won! Have a good day!

Anthony,
I have only just looked inside the AH tranny but it looks very similar to my MGTF in its layout. I have gone thru all my transmissions (2 MGA's, 1 MGTF). I have not done a OD tranny yet! It is interesting that AH never went to an all syncro transmission as MG did around 1963-64. Have a merry Christmass and a happy new year!
