HD8 pin & spring assembly

Anyone know what that washer is made of and how important is it to have it?
That washer is missing, but there still is the metal washer present.
I can use a thin rubber washer in it's place. Thoughts on that?

Don't think earlier carbs had any sealing washer there, I've never seen one on H4/HS4's. You could use a big and small wad punch and make one out of leather or gasket paper, something like that? Rubber may not be be compatible with petrol unless you know it is nitrile. Andy.

The Moss diagram shows there should be a gasket and my other carb has the gasket.
I just can't figure out what it's made of. Not sure if gasoline gets to that area where the washer is, but to be safe, it is better to use something that gas will not deteriorate. Your suggestions of leather or gasket paper is smart. I can make one out of one of those. Maybe someone will chime in with what the proper gasket material is. Cheers, Roger

Here's one of mine - looks possibly like leather.

Thank you Steve and Andy for chiming in.
I just got off the phone with Joe Curto.
He said it's a rubber washer. Get one at a hardware store and trim it to fit or use an O-ring.
Cheers,
Roger
