HD8 Carb Lift Pin Replacement

The lift pin on my forward HD8 carb is stuck in the down position. I have the parts from Moss to replace it. Can anyone provide any advice before I try to remove the stuck lift pin?

The small C-clip looks like it will be a real challenge. Looks like it should come out of the bottom of the opening once I remove the C-clip. I have tried WD-40, Blaster, and Marvel Mystery Oil multiple times with no success.

The float lever, if that's what you're referring to, should come out easily with the pin removed (the pin fits semi-loosely, it's held in place by the inside wall of the float). If yours is so mangled it won't come out easily I would replace it. Moss has it, for 'original' lid for $8.99; part#370-170. IIRC, the valve is screw-in; if you see a 'C-clip' it's likely a gasket.

Are you referring to Moss Item #373-000, Pin and Spring Assembly? To be honest, it looks like the carb should be removed from the car and this work done on the bench within a large pan. I can see those small parts, powered by the spring going into never-never land. With small C-clips, I use a small jeweler's screwdriver to wedge it out.

Yep that's what I am talking about. I really don't want to remove the carb again---they are a bitch---especially the rear carb. I was hoping to try to do it on the car. I think it looks like once the top C-clip is removed, it will come out of the bottom of the shaft. Since it is spring loaded I am more worried about holding the pin elevated while replacing the C-clip on the new part. I don't often use the lift pin to set the mixture anyway but I do like having all things in working order. I may just not even tackle this little project at this time.
I found that the choke shaft was frozen and this lift pin were both frozen on the forward carb but not the rear one. Maybe there is water dripping down when driving in the rain and falls onto the front carb. Just speculating but found it odd. I will be sure an lubricate those pins in the future.

I replaced those and found that if the top of the fuel bowl is removed while still on the car, the float lever will often get bent. I figure out how to get the lids back on while not bending those levers. It has to be done carefully I found that out--both coming off and going back on.
