TR6 Hazard switch wiring - '71 TR6

I'm looking to replace my missing hazard switch with an aftermarket rocker switch (due to my unwillingness to pay around $150 for a correct one). However, I'm having trouble understanding the hazard circuit logic in the wiring diagram - the connection with the turn signal flasher has me confused. Has anyone done this and can they walk me through which type of switch to get (SPST, DPST) and the terminal assignment? It looks like it should be the same for a '70 or '71.

I can usually handle dashboard electrics but I'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing solve this one.

Thanks

There was a change in switches at commission #78521. The earlier unit had four terminals, the later having six. Make sure you are referencing the proper wiring diagram.

Probably won't help, but have you tried switching the switch back and forth (assuming you have one!) a lot of times in succession? Sometimes this helps get mine going. I've felt this was to do with corrosion on the switch contacts, then again in my case it might be the relay or the flasher. Otherwise you might want to try to pick up a used one? Or just never break down or get a flat. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif (sorry!) Pete

Andy,

it's a piece of cake. I show how to do that in my TR250/TR6 electrical repair manual. What you need is a 2-position DPDT switch, rated at 10 amps or more.

I'm recovering from surgery right now, so I can't spend a lot of time at the computer, but sometime in the next few days I'll see if I can locate the wiring diagram on my hard drive and send it to you.

It really is easy, and I've done it to my '71 TR6.

Thanks to all for the replies:

Doug - It looks like the four terminal is what I need. I found the four correct wires but have nothing to connect them to.

Pete - If only I had a switch to switch back and forth! No switch, just a hole in the dash.

Dan - I hope your recovery is going well. I would really appreciate the diagram whenever you are up and around - it's not a dire need right now so don't overdo things. Like I said, it looked a little trickier to me than the usual dash electrics, and I was hoping that someone had already done it. And there you are! You should be able to find my email address in my profile.

Thanks again, folks.

The wiring goes as follows, looking at the back of the switch:
light green/brown to turn signal flasher unit-upper left terminal. Light green/brown from turn signal switch- upper right terminal. Purple to lights-lower left terminal. Purple/red from hazard relay-lower right terminal.
Hope this is of help. Good luck!

I guess I should have attached the picture on the forum, so others can use it. For TR250 or 69-71 TR6 only.
