T-Series Hazard/Rear Window Defogger Switch

This is for the GT I'm working on - the one Tony Barnhill had started for his wife Jerri. He converted over to a steel dash, and had sourced the radio console from a UK spec car - one that fits over the shift lever console, and mates with the steel dash. The rectangular holes for the hazard and rear window switches are smaller than the switches I have for it. What's the deal? On the back of the console, the holes have a recessed area that appear to be the proper size, once cut out. I really hate to cut on this otherwise perfect console; anyone have any insight here?

Thanks,
Mickey

Got a picture?

The switch, or the console? The switch is the standard one; I have one (hazard) with a chrome bezel, and one with black, and both are the same size.

Here's the black one I got from ebay:

Switch

Don't have a picture of the console, but as I mentioned, the recessed area, if cut away would allow fitting these. Just not sure why it's not already prepared, unless there are European switches that are different.

I sense a Dremel tool in your near future, bubba. :jester:

Got one!

Don't want to use it on this, though, if I can help it. These things are hen's teeth!

Tell me.

Post a photo of the console? I'd like to see what the holes look like. How deep is the second surface? Could it be the thing was meant to be upholstered after the outer lip is 'recontoured' to accomodate switches?

...jus' thinkin' out loud.

Console's at the house; I'm at the office. Just guessing, but the recessed area is about a third to half the thickness of the plastic. Sure looks like it was meant to fit different switches, depending on their size, by cutting away for the larger ones.

Still, hate to butcher it unless I have to.

OK - here are a couple of pictures of the console. Front is easy to see; rear view a little difficult to make out the recessed area, but it's there:
