Hawiian Healey question

Read this on another forum and thought I'd share it here:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A nice young fellow named Lane Lima has been working several months on
a large abatement project in the State Office Building here in Juneau.
He has seen me driving my XK120...and eventually told me about his car.
It's a 1960 (purchased by his grandfather in later 1959) Austin Healy
sitting on blocks in his father's garage on Oahu, Hawaii. The car is
red with a white top, 4 speed w/OD, two seater, with wire wheels. It
has 15,057 miles on it and still has the original tires on it. Pretty
good story, huh?

Finally tonight (after many weeks of my prodding) his father called and
gave him the VIN:

HBN7L1720

I've certainly heard of BN7 Healys, but that's about as far as my
knowledge goes. I'm looking for the killer Healy website where I can
see what the VIN reveals. I know somebody out there knows just the
site....maybe even knows all the info! Heck, I think at least two
Listers actually own Healys. Rob Wescott on the Saloon list for one.
As always, I hereby appeal to the wisdom on the Lists.

Cheers,

Tom Carson

I recommended that Tom drop in here and ask. Let's see if he does.

Hello Tom,
Perhaps this will help.

HBN7L1720
H = Name - Healey
B = Model Cubic Capacity - 2000 - 2999 c.c.
N = Body Type - 2 Seater Tourer
7 = Series of Model
L = denote if car is different to standard right-hand-drive - L is a left-hand-drive

the last set of numbers (1720) is the Serial Number/Car Number. This particular Healey Series started with Car Number 101 and ended with Car Number 13750. The car number is for both the BN7 (2-seater) and the BT7 (4-seater). I believe there were 2,825 BN7, and 10,824 BT7 built.

The BRITISH MOTOR INDUSTRY HERITAGE TRUST can provide a certified copy of a factory record for the specific car. The certificate give information relating to the car's original data, ie Chassis Number, Engine Number, Body Number, color, Date built and anyother info pertaining to that car. It costs about $75., but interesting if anyone plans to restore or display the car. You can find them at https://www.mgcars.org.uk/namgar/bmiht/bmiht.htm.

Hope this is helpful.
