If you have ever had that experience it is very difficult.
I discovered this tool which was already on my bench. It is designed to strip wire ends at a measured length. Available from Electronic stores like Radio Shack, Tandy, Dick Smith.
The end jaws fit neatly around the lock and it just about falls out of the door. Here is a pic of the pliars.
