I GOT MY OD TRANNY! Well, it's on the way! ((thank you James Moore!)) And my carbs are STILL sitting on the shelf. I'm going to start polishing them up in a couple days (as soon as I get everything together to do it)

The carbs, OD, a Pertronix and carpet are going in Emma before the Binabox gets here and she becomes the neglected step-car.

OOOH, might I mention -- 6 more days and my (okay, fine...OUR) new car is here!?

Little things make me happy lately.
 
OOOH. And might I mention, I'm on the hunt for a 3 sync, 4 speed OD tranny for the Binabox. I know, hard to find.

JB, all you need to polish up them carbs is: a pile of
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif NO /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif Wire wheel JB /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif
rags and a small tin of Mothers Mag Polish.---Keoke-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
 
Cokey, I was going to use a Dremel tool with a cotton buffer thingy and some polishing stuff. Maybe a wire wheel to get the most crud off? Just rags and Mothers? Seems too easy.
 
Definatly have the rags and Mothers, but keep the dremel handy. The little cotton wheels and the soft bullet shaped polisher dabbed with the Mothers does wonders down in the cracs and creveces.
Using the Mothers aluminium polish they come out looking like chrome! I'm doing mine for the TR right now exactly that way, and they're lookin good.

When you polish the SUs mask the inside of the dashpots (milkbottle shapped thingys) to make sure there is no damage/marking of the bores. SUs rely on the tight tolerence and smooth bore of the dashpots to pistons in order to work properly.

So work the outside to a fine shine but no touchy to the inside.....

Congrats on finding the OD gearbox btw, 1 down and 1 to go, but then this MG thingy wouldn't be any fun if it wasn't for the quests it sends us on /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

so what do you do to keep them looking that good?
(or perhaps a better question is How long does this shinyness last?)

Shine 'em up with Mother's now and again after you get them all pretty!
 
Of course, reshining shouldn't take as much effort as the initial shining... assuming that you stay on top of keeping them shiney. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I don't know... sounds like a slippery slope to me. Next thing you know I'll be unsoldering fuses and stuffing in "lucas" tags like Geo Hahn. And spraypainting my spin-on oil filter green. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Perhaps I should just leave my carbs "seasoned" like a well-loved frying pan.

By that I assume you mean a well-loved cast-iron frying pan and not one of these new fangled "teflon coated" jobs.... right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
 
I haven't mentioned the early D style O/D, I have setting in the garage. I have pictures if you are still looking. I needed an LH style for my 69. I found the LH and installed it last week. I really enjoy having the O/D.
 
I'm looking for a 3 synchro, 4 speed OD tranny for a '66 MGB (in a box at this time) that I (we) bought and dahubby is picking up this week. I'd be interested it pictures, and the price if you're selling it.

If I don't find it by the time we're to that point in the restore, I'm toying with talking to dahubby about a 5 speed conversion.
