Hauling It...2

So I've got my trailer(on which I have my '59 Bugeye)....have some 2" tiedowns that ratchet to the front and rear of the trailer. Where is a good spot to secure the tiedowns to the car? Looks like most of the areas that the tiedowns fit...might bend or break, or in the way of a brake line. Any suggestions as to tiedown points in the front and the rear? What about tire webs? The only problem with these is that the front fender comes down so low it is in the way of attaching it to the front rail of the trailer. Are there any trailer brake controllers (under dash) that is better than another? Sooo I should not have it in gear when moving it? It's an open trailer...should I cover the car or would the cover beat the car to death?

No car cover.

I always tie down at the axle, and the front lower A-frame. However, I have never hauled and spridgets long distance.

I usually leave them out of gear.

Axle straps are a good choice, they are short strap that wrap around the axles with two hooks to hook into. When it comes to hauling Spridgets on open and enclosed trailers, I've literally logged twens of thousands of mile with my racing. First thing i can tell you about good tie downs is you won't find them locally, try online places like Pegasus Racing or Racer Wholesale, get the 3" rachet type with safety hooks, you don't want to haul anything with a open hooks. I also haul out of gear. In the rear I wrap two axle straps around the rear housing's axle tubes, in the front I wrap a axle strap around the lower control between the spindle and coil spring. Here's picture of the good tie down from Racers Wholesale's website, notice the safety hook on the rachet tie down, hope this helps.

Listen to Hap, and don't use cheap tiedowns. I've seen the results of folks trying to save a buck on tiedowns. They regretted it.

Looks like good stuff and well recommended. Did not know about those straps. I see some in my future.

reminds me of a story my brother told me. He had purchased a Tent Trailer and as he and the dealer were hooking it up to the van my brother asked "how often do people have the hitch accidently pop off the ball?" The dealer's answer, "Only once."
