The brand of Jaguar once had a strong reputation and carried the nameplate that everyone trusted and wanted to drive. The status symbol of owning a Jaguar was one fans wore proudly, has this changed?

Wow.....I got lots of feedback on this topic on some of the other social outlets......some good, some bad. Please feel free to join in with your thoughts!

How far back you going? In the fifties, cars were cheap and fast and reliability was not needed for a car of speed. You fixed car on your own as they were British and had to be easy for the layman mechanic. In the British Leyland days the cars were never trusted and bought because of the nameplate mainly. When the XJs came out in 89 with GM idea, still bought as a nameplate. Then the introduction of the new XJ6 by Ford, cars were bought for reliability as well as nameplate, until Ford had bugs. TATA has improved the car enough to be pretty reliable, but still is a high end nameplate.

Depends. How are you defining reputation. To me it can include or be limited to styling exclusivity, price, reliability, and so on. And there is the fact that the market has changed from the 50s/60s heydays where designs were memorable and expectations for serive requirements for most cars were different. Plus now there are many "low" budget autos that offer what would have bee high performance and paint that would have been impossible in their markets a few years ago. So I don't know that the question is really answerable.

I guess I was more thinking have they recovered from the Ford days when folks thought of the Jaguar brand as just watered down Ford copies?? The styling is back, but how has the reputation now? You know, quality, style, repair/service.etc...?
