I was looking at Aerog's photo site the other day and saw his photo of the bridge at Harper’s Ferry. I was amused enough to dig out some old photos I took and it looks like we were standing in the exact same spot. I was there in ’87 or ’88. John Brown met his end behind and to the right of where these photos were taken. Anyone else taken a picture here?

Apparently not, Wikipedia says that he was tried for treason and hung after being captured at the armory. The building John was in is much smaller than I had imagined.

A friend owns an original musket made at the old Harper's Ferry arsenal.

Funny you should mention that. My dad is in possession of a 69 cal smooth bore flintlock that Harper’s armory modeled their first gun after. I had its history traced years ago and it was manufactured in France in 1774. I think Harper’s started making them around 1783. I believe it has been in our family since it was made.
 
neat. My dad has a modern reproduction of an 1803 Harpers Ferry .58 cal Flintlock. Beautiful rifle. Lots of fun to shoot too.

Now I can't get that song out of my head. What's worse is I can't remember 75% of the words, so it's Hmmm hm hmmm hmm hm Harper Valley PTA-a.

I'd blame you for my predicament, but I guess ultimately, I brought the whole thing up. That area used to be your old stomping ground didn’t it? You got any pictures?
 
Funny...I've been to that picture site too. I probably have a picture somewhere that I've taken of that bridge.
We go down to Summit Point, WV at least 3 times a year. Harpers Ferry is only about 10 miles away from the track. In the past, we've wandered over to Harpers Ferry. These days, because we are always towing (and not spectating), it is harder to tour the area.
When I retire (and don't have to be at work on Monday morning), I'm hoping to "fit in" some local tours when we go to a race track...especially the Watkins Glen, BeaveRun and Summit Point areas.
And I agree about Scott's work....I've broused through it too and it's great stuff!
 
Here is a picture of the main drag. I went for the weekend with my girlfriend at the time. This was the off season around 10 AM before anything was open.

We live a short distance from Harpers Ferry. The 100-6 has driven up the street pictured above many times in the last couple of years!
