Harold's new coat

I am removing the old carpet in Harold, ready to install the new kit I received.

There is a piece of carpet that hangs down behind the front seats, that is attached with studs. Here's one of those studs:

I'm wondering how to remove these studs without damaging them? They appear to be riveted in place.

Concurrently, I am experimenting with paint. I had to do some repairs on the tailgate, and decided I would try repainting it using Rustoleum, thinned with mineral spirits, applied with a roller, as per this thread:

(Scroll down to the first post from member "69chargeryeehaa ". A forum member here pointed me to this thread: thanks! It's the longest thread I've ever seen in a forum.)

It's quite tricky getting the paint consistency right, but it's a helluva sight more easy to apply it than using spray (not to mention much cheaper)! I'm on the third coat now, and it's starting to look OK. No better than OK. However, it looks much better than how it looked before, so I'm not complaining.

The Rustoleum I'm using is Gloss White. It dries super hard, and has a nice shine to it. My main problem has been slight runs when I've mixed it too thin.

Julian, I'm currently doing the Rustoleum job to my BGT also, I'm on coat two and am really impressed so far with the technique.
Good luck on that coat.

Yep, & if you get lucky there's a little posi-drive screw in the middle instead of a pop rivet!

Tony, so far I have never gotten that lucky! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I did have to make a little extension for the nose of my rivet gun to set the rivets in the stud correctly.
