harmonic balancer nut

I've decided to have my BJ8 balancer rebuilt. Is the large nut right hand or left hand thread? I've put about 150lbs of torque both ways, to no effect. I can go farther, with pipe estensions, but want to do so only in the right direction. Thanks.
 
It is a right hand thread nut. I had to put over 600 lbs to a princess 4 litre balancer nut a while back. Too many times you find the 3000 nuts too loose.

I tried a four foot iron pipe on the end of my breaker bar. The bar flexed so much I was afraid it would break. Still didn't budge.
 
Yep...Been there. My Snap-On 3/4 drive impact would not remove the nut on the Princess engine. (for those that do not know , the Princess engine is a 100-4 engine with two more cylinders) I had to load the engine and take it to a truck repair shop that had a 1000 ft lb 1" impact. FWIW , I have always been able to remove a 3000 crank nut with the 3/4 impact tool.

I tried the impact wrench first. But mine is only a 1/2 inch. 125 psi at the compressor didn't make a dent. I think I'll ask the guy who installed it just how tight he make it.
 
A 1/2 impact usually will not move it. I looked for a recommended tightening torque in the Bentley manual and did not find it.

Now I seem to remember breaking the crank nut on my MGB. I had the engine on the floor, used a six foot long pipe on the wrench, and when it broke, it sounded like a gunshot.
 
--Hi Cutlass, I have had no trouble in removing those nuts usng an impact wrench with at least 350 Ft/Lbs of torque.--Fwiw---Keoke
 
I pulled mine loose by hand, though I may have employed one of my seldom used tools...

4:1 torque multiplyer!
