Hardtop restoration

Hey pplz!

As ppl may know... my car is FEKED once again!
mechanic recons he wont be able to finish it tonight, needs it til monday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
So im thinking i mite attack the hardtop in the meantime, is it good to use baking soda to clean it up?

i wanna replace all the seals and thrs a crack through one of the side rear windows.

I'm really interested in spraying the roof white... any ideas how best to do that?

Jarrod,

Once you have dealt with whatever might be under that piece of duct tape and cleaning the painting should be no problem. Just use a good quality vinyl paint (should be an easy find at an auto supply house). Lots of TR7/8 guys use this paint to recon those big plastic dashes and it works well.

I got stuck into the hardtop today, gave it a good clean over... havent started with Baking soda just yet...
and ripped the seals out

Originally i wanted to spray it white, but i figure ill see how long the black paint lasts, then at least i wont have stuffed the vynl. I'm hopin it lasts a while /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I ran outta time today... will start gluing in the new seals tomorrow.

LOL! That last picture is funny. The top looks good! I have a smoothline hardtop sitting in my basement that needs restoration. Someday, someday.

Inquiring minds want to know, what was uder the tape on the front edge on the driver's side?

I've looked at all the posted pictures and couldn't figure that one out either.

Top looks great, in fact almost like new.

after looking a little more closely, it looks like it might have run all the way across the front edge at one time (notice tape residue on the opposite side in some of the other pics). Maybe it was an adhoc way to stop water from creaping in between the windshield frame and roof?

Hence the need for the new header seal.

The tape was my cheap solution to a dripping roof seal, just like im now doing for the softop

Yup, he's gone. Came back LATE Thursday night, stayed long enough to mow grass, do a couple chores, plant grass seed and repack the clothes I washed.

He'll be back Friday.
