Hardtop AH 3000 MK III

Dear All,

I just posted my introduction in the "New Member" area /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Having learned the hard way with previous cars, there are many ways a hardtop (either original or remake) can be fit to a british car. I was thinking about buying a fiberglass one through Dennis Welsh or other companies. To my knowledge they are fitted like the original one was.

Do I need to remove the softtop first? Does someone out there have a copy of the original fitting instructions? I was searching the manual, service instructions, old postings in this forum, the web but found nothing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

Thanks
Sudhir

Morning and welcome,
I seem to remember that it does involve taking off the soft top on the Mk111 which looks like a big job. I find that compared with my MGA, the healey MK111 soft top is very good.I guess a phone call or email to D Welch. I think Cape also do them.

Hi Fortius, Welcome to the cub!. Yes the soft top must be removed if you choose to install a hard top on the BJ8 cars.---Keoke

There is at least one BJ hardtop sold out of the UK the installation of which does not involve removing the folding top. Not sure which of the UK sellers but try CAPE, DW and David Ward till you hit paydirt.

I also remember reading an ad for a hardtop for my BJ8 that said that convertable top ( hood ) was left installed but I have no experience with hardtops and cannot remember were I read this ad.

Sudhir, welcome to the forum. I have a 67 BJ8 with a cape international hard top. Cape manufactures an exact replica of the factory BJ8 hard top to very high standards. They did design a feature that allows the soft top to remain retracted.
The guys at cape are great to work with. No finacial interest, just a happy customer.
