Alan Alda, a/k/a Hawkeye. Just 86 years young today.

Hawkeye: Actually, Iโ€™m pursuing my lifelong quest for the perfect, the absolute driest martini to be found in this or any other world. And I think I may have hit upon the perfect formula.
Trapper John: Five to one?
Hawkeye: Not quite. You pour six jiggers of gin and you drink it while staring at a picture of Lorenzo Schwartz, the inventor of vermouth.

In his later years he starred, along side Scott Eastwood, in an absolutely terrific role as Ira Levinson in The Longest Ride.

It sounds a bit like a "chick flick" but it's really well done. The movie follows/ intertwines the lives of two sets of couples - one new and one from days past - whose lives connect as a result of a fiery car crash involving Ira (Alda). If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

From IMDB: Based on the bestselling novel by master storyteller Nicholas Sparks, THE LONGEST RIDE centers on the star-crossed love affair between Luke, a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback, and Sophia, a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City's art world. As conflicting paths and ideals test their relationship, Sophia and Luke make an unexpected and fateful connection with Ira, whose memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple. Spanning generations and two intertwining love stories, THE LONGEST RIDE explores the challenges and infinite rewards of enduring love.

And I thought he was excellent in that TV series The West Wing. The presidential candidate that tried hard, but didn't quite make it. I remember a scene after he loses the election, where he's sitting on a park bench, completely alone. He checks his cell and sees "You have no messages".

Sic transit gloria mundi.

Watched that a couple of times but didnโ€™t care for it. But my TV preference aside, Alda is a terrific actor.

He's pictured on a TR6 brochure.
He also played the President of the US
in "Canadian Bacon".
If you get the chance, watch it.

you mean he wasn't the real president?

(Up here Canadian Bacon is a docudrama taught in schools :ROFLMAO: )

You had me so confused -- The Longest YARD was a comedy about prison inmates being forced to play football! I finally looked at the IMDb blurb in your post and saw the title The Longest RIDE...
