TR2/3/3A Handbrake Mystery [at least to me!]

I tore out the old interior of my '58 TR3A and am in the process of installing new carpets, etc. The handbrake had no rubber boot at the base. The rubber boot I bought seems to have a place for something to come out of the side of the tranny tunnel and go to the floor at an angle, an inch or two towards the rear from the hole for the handbrake lever. My tranny tunnel appears to have a plate riveted over where the hole in the side of the tunnel used to be. Can someone please tell me what should have been there?

I believe that there was also a rubber boot to cover the speedometer cable which came out at this point on overdrive transmission optioned TR's. The boot just covered up the hole in the transmission tunnel on non OD cars.

I believe that is where the speedo cable would exit if the gearbox had overdrive. As I recall, the TR3As did not use an angle drive but rather a longer cable that took a round-about route.

Nope, the boot is the same. On non-OD cars, there just isn't anything inside that angled portion at the rear. As noted, on cars with OD, the speedo cable goes through there.

If buying a TR2-3B rubber handbrake boot, you will probably need the 2 x keeper plates that pin it to the floor and side of the tunnel.

They need to be matched TR2-3B items as the TR4 handbrake boot was a slightly different shape.
