MGB Hand Brake Problem 77 MGB

Started trying to adjust my handbrake today and so far no luck. i tightened the nut on the end of the cable at the adjuster but it doesn't seem to have any effect except to shorten the stroke of the handle. The back brakes are in adjustment. Could the cable be frozen in the housing? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

See if you can find a grease port on the cable. If it isn't clogged up, try pumping a bunch of grease through. You might want to remove the carpeting around the handle end in case grease decides to ooze out that end.

Your problem is more likely the equalizer assembly on the back side of the differential. Remove it from the differential and remove the cables from it. Completely disassemble the equalizer and clean all of the old caked on crud from it, lubricate all the parts, reassemble and reinstall. You may well be surprised at what a difference this will make.
Cheers,

The cable doesn't have any type of grease fitting on it. There were two types of equalizers on these cables. On the cables of the car up to 77 the equalizer could be disassembled but on the cars from 77 on up it doesn't seem to be able to be disassembled. The 77 up model is a square metal piece. If anyone has had any luck tearing this down please share the details. I have two repair mauals, Bentley and Haynes, and neither cover this detail.
