So, I needed to repaint the running boards on the Ugly Truckling, and find something to cover/seal the rusty, pited heater fresh air duct exposed inside the RF wing.
I asked about POR15, apparently it doesn't like sunshine, older versions would not accept paint....I looked at Eastwood....have to order their encapsulator stuff.
So, I looked at the running boards.....charcoal, dark painted when I had them fixed, oh, 24 years ago or so.
Then I remembered, the guy who did it (body and paint guy) used Hammerite black (almost a metallic in the right light).
Held up pretty good for 24 years. So, where would I find Hammerite now?
Then the light came on.
Down in the basement I went, and there was the 24-year-old quart of black Hammerite, with a quart of thinner next to it.
Opened it up, it was the consistency of a tub of Jello.
Hmmm.
Stirred it, chunky....added some thinner, stirred some more, put the lid on and shook it for a bit....I'll be go to heck if it didn't smooth out.
Used a foam brush, did both boards, did the heater duct, couple of other spots, stuff says no primer, paint over rust and seals it.
When dry (fast, too) it is REALLY hard.
Anybody out there ever use it?
Dave
