hail storm panic

After weeks of working on my CGT...had it parked in my fenced yard at my shop, happily baking in the sun. Black clouds and a radio warning had me scrambling, packing all the vehicles I could inside. A couple of customers cars(I own a VW repair/resto shop)Heres a pic of my C crammed in with some beetles. I had to leave both of my Porsche 911s outside, wrapped in shipping pads, but luckily the storm missed us.

nice... better to be prepared and not need it, and all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Good to hear you Porsches didn't need the full body padding after all /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I know those VWs pay the bills Jack. However, are you not a bit skered they will rub off on the B?

And what if your customers see you messing with a LBC.

Immage you got to maintain an immage. Take it home.

well, if'n they see it enough, they might want to get one of their own, and seeings how he did a great job on their bug, they may want him to do the LBC for them too... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My BGT was involved in a Chesnut storm paniconce. Don't park your car under them in the wind!

Isn't it interesting that all us MG guys are nuts about all kinds of cars....Jack, I need your assistance with Jerri's Bug:

Believe it or not, there's 1 rusty panel in the car (I already replaced the passenger floor)...its the one the spare tire sits on & the little triangle piece next to it on the driver side....do you have a supplier?
Oh, I'm going to replace all the weatherstripping & both bumpers so I'll need them also

Tony I've got a great gift you can buy and give to Jerri--a super nice Fiat Spider 2000 Roadster with A/C and wood grain interior. Call or email and don't miss out on this one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That VW was Jerri's mother's last car..its a 1973 with less than 75,000 miles....in about 1992, I let the air out of the front tires & it then sat under her carport until she passed....her eyesight had just gotten so bad she couldn't drive anymore but she wanted her car around for comfort...she always reminded me that I needed to fix her flats but I always forgot & so did she....her will stated that Jerri should get it as I was the only son-in-law who would take care of it....

As long as I knew Mrs. Owens - some 30 years, she always drove little Bugs...when one of her daughters went to college (she had 3) she gave them her old Bug & bought a new one...when Jerri & I started dating she was driving her mom's old VW...this one was the last one (& she never liked the color) & now its Jerri's...& it gets whatever it wants!

My daughter fondly remembers going for jaunts with 'gramma' in the little Bug - she & her cousins zipping around the country roads near Dale Hollow Lake....her only request to me as I started putting it back in 'like new' condition was that it doesn't lose gramma's smell....Actually, the title is in Jerri & Shannon's names - I'm not involved except as the "Wrench" & "checkbook"....we went to get it a few years ago & I've been going through it ever since, a little at a time (motor out, new clutch, all new master cylinders, distributor, fuel pump, passenger floorboard, comlete brakes, seat slides, etc - whatever wasn't perfect...now, its mechanically brand new & its on to the body & weatherstripping; interior doesn't need anything except a new headliner where its water stained in one corner)...

I had Coker make those original whitewall tires from an old mold that was OE to the car when she bought it.

I a WD for West Coast Metrics...and a few other VW suppliers, hard and soft parts. We do lots of body off restos..mostly modified restos. Bigger engines, trick stuff.I draw the line at chopping and stuff like that. Out here we're pretty rust free, have tons of sheetmetal in stock..hard stuff I get overnite, impossible stuff takes three days. Currently doing a 71 super vert(shown in pic of shop) a Manx buggy, a 66 bug and kombi(same customer) another 66 bug, a 71 bug a two Ghias..a 64 a a 68. Ghias are mine as well as a 60 23 window deluxe bus that hopefully will crawl into the shop this summer. I have a 77 B roadster to do so the wife will have one and a clean 68 GT I'm puttering with. I hope to get most done as I may have to pull the plug on the shop fairly soon. If I do, most of the cars..Corvette, some MGs..most of the VWs will be history. I also have a nice 18ft. 6.2 diesel rollback truck with a moster pulling winch on it.

Yep, I know West Coast Metric...jus thought you might have the body parts or were a distributor for some of the big houses....always prefer to give my business to forum members when possible.

Ghia..........oooooh, I've a 1971 Ghia that was my daughter's 1st car (when she was 16 - she's 34 now!)...everything's been gone through & she's ready for paint right now:
