Haggerty insurance?

Has anyone used Hagarty insurance? I just did an on-line quote and the bid was rediculously low. Is there a catch or problem that I am not seeing?
Bill

I have Haggerty. For mine, with a "68" plate, I believe it was $196 for the year? Only catch I really know of is that's the classic plate, so you're technically supposed to drive to shows or parades.

I don't use Haggarty I use Condon-Skelly out of Moorestown NJ they charge me $60.00 for a $5000.00 agreed valve of a 74 Midget if u want to that as a comparision hope that helps,I also use Historic Plates on my car

I use AON, $100/year for $7000 agreed value on the Tunebug. That is their lowest premium--when I had the TR4 and the Bugeye together for a while, there was no additional premium. The nice thing about AON is that there is no mileage restriction, just have to have another car, and have to have it garaged.

No claims yet, but the folks I've dealt with otherwise have been nice and helpful.

Timely subject as I'm checking out classic car insurance companies right now. Does anyone use Atlas (Elite) insurance? They are about 20% less expensive on a premium quote (than Haggerty and J.C. Taylor) but only know one other person who has this insurance.

Cheers,
John

I do believe the reason for the low rates are the restrictions placed on your usage of your vehicle such as No. of miles allowed per year, types of usage etc.

I have Haggerty on my 67 MGB GT, it just a tick over $100, I get free road side (towing) deal for being a member of the BMTA, it runs just a tick over $100 on a agreed value of $10,000. The limitations are same as most classic car policies, must be garaged, no under 25 year old drivers, 2500 miles maximum a year, not your primary vehicle. They are a good company that support our hobby, members of the BMTA (British Motor Trade Association), it was a no brainer for me, I happy with their service.

I have Grundy on the same terms as Hap mentioned above, (my 16-year-old son ain't happy) and it cost me $150.

I have used Haggerty Insurance in the past on my classic cars and I now use J.C. Taylor on my 76 Midget. Cost is $78.00 per year for $6000.00 stated value insurance. I also have $100K/$300K/$50K liability, uninsured motorist, and no deductibles on collision & comprehensive. Most of the antique car insurance companies offer the same types of coverage at around the same cost. Most do have restrictions on modifications to the car, racing, and the car cannot be driven as your primary use vehicle. Most state Sunday drives, car shows, parades, club events, etc as the types of use permitted. Most antique car insurance companies have a maximum amount of miles that the car can be driven per year (usually around 2000). The best thing about antique auto insurance vs regular insurance companies (State Farm, Allstate, etc) is that the insurance is stated value which means you will get the amount of money you insured the car for if anything happens to it.

I switched to Hagerty about 6 months ago, no claims but I did use their towing service once (blush...).

Their customer service has been excellent.

I have Haggerty on both my Bugeye and my TR4. I think my total premium is around $130/year. I'm pretty sure that I don't have any kind of mileage restriction (they do ask you to estimate your annual mileage when calculating the quote). As others have stated, the cars must be garaged, and must not be your primary driver. However, they can be driven more than just parades and car shows.

I've never files a claim with Haggerty. That's usually when you find out how could an insurance company really is. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I have had J.C. Taylor for well over 2 decades with no claims<phew>! They did take Wife's '73 Black Tulip MGB 2 years early because I had the for a decade for my Healey.

They do have the 2500 "restriction" and you get a form at every renewel asking about future usage. One year I put down 7500 miles and the following year 6000 miles. Never said a word.

Wish I could get away with using them for Amber /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif!!

I've used Haggerty for 3 years now and no claims (other than towing). I suspect that the parade / show restriction could be a stickler. I keep meaning to look into this....

I put the Mini on Hagerty two years ago after my Mrs. had a major accident (with a non LBC) and we found ourselves looking for alternative, cost effective coverage. I believe I pay $160/year for my agreed value coverage.

In addition to what has been mentioned above, they will require photos of the car. The cost of your policy is in part determined by the limits of coverage you ask for and for the dollar amount of the agreed value of the vehicle. Google 'agreed value' and 'stated value'. I believe there is a difference and from memory, agreed value is 'what you get' without any haggle or discussion vs. stated value.

I specifically asked the person at Hagerty about limits on use. They do have mileage restrictions but they've never asked me to update my odometer records with them. They also use a general term for acceptable drives: "pleasure use". They have left this purposefully vague. To me, any drive I take in my LBCr is either a test drive or a pleasure drive. I don't drive it for misery.

I pay $100 per year for the $5000 agreed value of my Midget with Infinity Insurance.
