hagerty insurance i highly recommend

recently my 1958 tr3a was totaled
i had check in hand for agreed value from Hagerty in 3 weeks
they had the totaled car picked up at body shop and the transporter wrote a check on the spot for the storage charges
now i'm having great support for my liabilities (as someone else was driving my car)and Hagerty's insurance adjuster has been very helpful and always there when i called
just wanted to express my experience
 
Thanks for the recommendation, I've been looking around for a new insurer for my TR6, and I've been leaning towards Hagerty, but I've been wondering how their claims are when there's an actual problem. That sounds like it was nice and easy!
 
My buddy would disagree with you. He recently bought a Mazda RX3 SP, which he insured with Hagerty. He also has two other classic cars insured with Hagerty. He was rear ended by a large SUV. The RX3 is an absolute mess. Hagerty is trying to find a body shop that will cut the insured car in half and weld on the back half of another craigslist $2500 rust bucket RX3 they bought. He was hit so hard that the front seat broke, the floor behind his seat and under the rear seat buckled, and the trunk mounted fuel tank was forced thru the rear seat. They won't total the car because it had an agreed upon value of $20,000, which is what he paid for the car. It was absolutely showroom perfection up until the accident, and now they want to give him back a Frankenstein because they insist it can be fixed for less than $20K. So far, none of the local shops want to touch it, so it might end up being fixed out of state.
 
Sorry to hear about your friends problem Todd, but Hagerty NEVER questioned one item needed in bringing my TR6 back to it's standards and even paid for a complete paint job to insure the paint would match. I had my money in two weeks, an open claim for six months, to give me plenty of time to be happy and the body shop had the adjusters home phone number in case they found anything while it was apart. He visited the shop every week and the inside rep at Hagerty called the shop every Friday for a progress report and to be sure that I was happy.

Wow, that sounds like a mess with the RX3 but Hagerty was great when I had my towing incident. Very fair, fast and good communication.
 
I just insured my MGB with Hagerty. I wanted to let everyone know that they only insure classic cars and some second cars. They will not insure all of your cars. They will not be your primary auto insurer...only secondary. I went to their web site and got a quote for both of my cars(and paid) and then was told that they would only insure my MGB. I had already canceled my other insurance thinking they would insure all of my cars.
 
I've never had a problem with Hagerty! They bought me a new $260.00 Triplex windshield when mine was stone damaged and even paid me to put it in since I told them that no one but me works on my cars. They paid me 6 hrs shop rate. Can't beat that anywhere! I would use no one else for classic car insurance. PJ
 
Hagerty has never been a primary insurer. The first question that they asked me was the year, make and model of my daily driver(s) and who the carrier was for those cars. Then and only then, would they quote me for my TR6.

My premium package covers towing on all of my cars, but not the liability or comprehensive coverage.
 
When i went to them for a quote, they wouldnt even give a quote without knowing my daily driver and insurance provider. That said, their quote is about 300$ less a year than i'm paying for my insurance currently on the TR6, and i've got ZERO colission or anything on the current coverage, just medical carry over from my primary policy. I'm going to have to change over, and soon, that's a major savings, for far BETTER coverage than I currently have.
 
I have used Hagerty for all my classics.

In June 2010 my hardtop fell onto my Stag, smashed the windshield, tore the t bar cover, ripped the hardtop headliner, bent the hard top mounting tabs.

Hagerty sent out an adjuster, we went over the damages, agreed on the prices and I had a check in a week to fix it the way I wanted.

Had I wanted it repaired at a shop they would have put it on a flatbed and delivered it back repaired and paid.

I have max coverages with zero deductible.

I know others who almost totaled their Triumphs, sent the car to a restorer and never paid a penny to get the car back 100% or close to it.

Since finding junk yard dogs for parts for LBC's seems to be getting harder and harder, one wonders if a Mazda is not considered "classic" enough to not be "repairable" with junk yard parts?
 
Based on my experiences, something sounds strange about the adjuster assigned to this case. He is not following the pattern in any of these stories about the way Hagerty wants things done for their customers.

If I were this customer, I would contact Hagerty and ask to speak to a manager to get a new adjuster assigned to the case.
 
Hagerty ended up totaling my buddy's RX3. The rusty body in Fl. ended up being too rusty. They found another shell that was acceptable, but it was $8500. Once it was determined that the parts needed exceeded 90% of the agreed upon value, it was game over. The wrecked RX3 is currently up for sale on a salvage auction site. He can match whatever the bidding gets to and buy the car back. Since his car was well known in the classic Mazda community (I can't believe I just wrote that), he is fielding phone calls from all over the country from people who want to buy the wreck.
 
Sounds like maybe he agreed to too low of a value? I don't know anything about Mazdas, but could that be the case?
 
His agreed upon value was what he paid for the car the week before it was wrecked - $20,000. He only got 5 miles of ownership out of the car.
 
Why would he want it back if it's that bad and the parts aren't available? I'd take to $20K and wait patiently for a restored one to show up for a lot less than the owner has in it.
 
He knows of a decent unrestored one in Washington state. The parts he could remove from the wrecked one would be the only way he could restore it properly. Or he could just part out the wrecked one.
