My firewall up-time... since we're into the rainy season I figger it'll get shut down soon now. Battery backup will only hold it for a few minutes. Longest it ever went was around 260. We'll see.

Nice Doc. My web server here at the district is at 145 days -- if it weren't for the battery/power/AC issues we have here, it'd be much longer.

I wager it ain't runnin' a MAC-OS, neither! :smirk:

The old one was running OSX (wasn't too bad, really). The new ones run SUSE. Rock solid, just run and run.

LINUX ROCKS!!

...Check out CentOS!!!

Well of course it works with no users. It's when the buggers start doing stuff that it all goes pear shaped

Putz.

It's my FIREWALL.

Of course it hasn't any "users". :smirk:

So we're in a countdown of sorts? Should I put the champagne in the fridge? Shoot, I'll celebrate anythin.

**************HAPPY TUESDAY!!!!***************

Afternoon (4PM on th' dot) thunderboomers are here. It won't be long before a transformer gets it and down we go.

Champagne glass at th' ready....

Kerosene lamps are a "feature" in every room, batteries of all flavors to hand, Buffett more likely than Rawls here. Gotta fire up th' generator shortly to tune it up for "the season" too.

I have to laugh, Doc. At 2:10 today we lost power at my office. I was about 5 minutes from shutting down our web servers (we've got lousy UPS systems here) when the power came back up. Bullet dodged!

WOOHOO!!! You're carryin' some Good Karma, Drew!

...must be th' weather... :smirk:

And we're a half-hour into th' daily boom-thump and (so-far) it's off in th' distance.

My "childhood" pal just stopped/left here on his last trip of the season from here to Maine. Draggin' a 35' enclosed Featherlite with the Caterham 7 and a Porsche 911 aboard. We tried to replace a leaking exhaust manifold gasket on the 7 but it would have chewed up too much of his road time so he's pressed on for The Great White North. The East side of the country is gettin' brutal hot weather the whole way up. I don't envy him the journey, and diesel fuel is five bucks a gallon... gah. His "rig" is the "pointy prow" version but still, he said 8MPG. <swoon>

Geeesh 8 mpg!! That's gonna put a dent in the old wallet!!! Makes the autotrain a more and more viable option!! We were considering it for a planned trip to visit my Marine in DC this summer and the way gas is going, it looks better and better!

Yep. We had that discussion a week ago. But he's taking two other cars up with him... so: Three cars, 8 MPG, he's REALLY gettin' a minimum of 24 MPG!

...or at least that's how we'd justified it... :jester:

And besides, taking a 7 on that run under its own power would be BRUTAL at our age!

You would definitly need a kidney-belt! :eeek: I'm just crazy enough though that I would really enjoy trying!!!

OH! And 'smits an' me did th' Autotrain from here to D.C. a long time ago. '77. With her '67 MGB. I would highly recommend it as a "Things To Do" on the bucket list. But only with a car you can readily get parts for now.

...and I swear SNL's (Bill Murray?) "Lounge Singer" was modeled after the piano guy in th' lounge car on that train.
