GT6 GT6 Stripes - Options / Photos

I need to repair a couple of dings in the bonnet. Most of the body shops are telling me that they can't repair the 2 or 3 dings without them looking out of place - so of course a major repaint is recommended. I am not ready to repaint the car yet as it is still in a good enough condition for me.

Photo attached - may not be too visible, but the dings all show up as bright white on a red paint job (reminds me of zits). Zits are between the M + P as well as another on the bulge above the M.

My plan is to get the dings repaired and then if they do look out of place to essentially hide them underneath some vinyl stripes. Been looking around the web for various stripe options to see what I think would look best, but not much success so far.

Turning to the forum to see if others have some good photos of stripes on the GT6 (and the Spitfire).

Any compentant body shop should be able to repair them. At most I could see a bonnet repaint but a good paint man can match the paint near perfectly.

It's mostly a matter of finding a shop where they're willing (and able) to take on tasks beyond modern car collision repair!

How deep are the "dings"? or are they more like paint chips? If the latter, and if the bonnet still sports the original factory paint, I'd be sorely tempted (actually, this is exactly what I'd do) to just get a bottle of Signal Red mixed up and touch up the chips...preserving the original finish and "patina" as much as possible.

Matching Signal Red can be a bit tricky; any good painter will tell you that...and then proceed to do it just fine, matching not only the color itself but the depth and "look" of the finish on the rest of the car. That's important as well, since it might likely look worse with original or older repaint on most of the car and modern two-stage uber-glossy wet-look paint on the bonnet!

the only issue with red paint is it will match when its painted but over time it will fade differently, so unless you are up for a repaint I would leave them alone

Check with one of the dent repair places, or a touch-up operation, like colors-on-parade, chips-away, etc.

Basic body shops tend to make a monster out of a molehill when it comes to tiny chips and dings and such.

The two lower dings are more chips in the paint, and whatever filler is on the car.

The ding on the bulge is an 'inside out' dent caused when the bonnet was closed too hard and it hit the radiator hose clamp.

Its not the original paint, nor is it signal red. From what records I have it appears to be a 1985 GMC Blaze Red or some sort of beastie like that.

Perhaps a repaint of the bonnet up to the seam line where the chrome spur sits would not look too bad.

I had a few dings on my bonnet too. The same ding from a hose clamp, and another one fron a battery hold-down rod being too long. I found a rattle can color as close as possible and added a little black to match my color. It worked pretty good, and it kept the chips from getting any worse.

First is to ee about getting the dings straightened out and then get some paint matched up.

Thanks - I had thought of simply doing the bulge and it does not look too bad.

And maybe its the size / type of stripe, but the white on red don't have that wavy look that others get when they go round the bulge.
