GT6 GT6 MKI Sunvisor Question

I asked Spitbits if they knew where I could get MKI sunvisors. They said no but that MKII would work. I recently bought these:
https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...RK%3AMEWNX%3AIT
The clip looks a bit odd, and Im worried that I would have to drill in order for these to install. I have just installed a headliner so am unable to locate the holes. I was able to locate holes that would work with MKI hardware, but cant seem to find any additional holes. Anyone have a pic of what my windscreen should look like? Am I going to have to drill?

There should be holes drilled in the roof about where the sunvisors attach, I'd assume they were drilled at the factory. Sadly, you may have to peel back the headliner to get at them.

Installing the headliner is a challenge, I know. Maybe not too difficult to peel it back just for the sunvisor holes, though.

Give it a shot, let us know.

Well looking at the pic here:

I have one hole by each a pillar. Can't find any more on the side or under. The set I got require 3 on each sude. In the center I found two very close together. In the pic it looks like just one is needed for the MKI. For the clip three are needed (total of 6) but in the pic looks like two each (4 total)

I can't peel my headliner back, I made it myself out of modern headliner material (hand stitched). Since its mostly foam, it will tear if I try. It is black, so I had planned on dyeing the visors. Although seeing how they're so flimsy, the clips are rotten, and mirror is messed up I'm thinking about possibly shipping them back, and waiting to get new ones. Problem is I don't know if the MKII will fit, and VB has a MKIII kit for $70, so I wonder if that will also fit.

I actually thought ahead and took pictures of it uninstalled, but for some reason they're no longer on my camera

Tom, your memory is correct. Um, the mounts are different looking (to be sure). All holes are in the window frame. As I recall there were no more than the three seen for the visors and the two for the rear view mirror. Hopefully these photos will help. The visors and hardware are original - my headliner is NOS. As you're aware, the headliner in the front is tucked under the windshield gasket. I'd try hard not to peel it out of there (it was hard enough to make it a neat installation to begin with). I found the holes by remembering where the center hole was (it's in the center), then using the visor rod hardware go out from there.

Whoops. While I was busy posting, I think you found your answer.

So I guess mine only has 3 holes, and drilling would be required for anything newer. Since my headliner is modern headliner foam, I took a pin and started stabbing anywhere I thought a hole might be, and only found 4 (the middle feels like there's two instead of one). That's how I was able to install my mirror.

I guess I'll just return them then. The MKIII kit is currently on sale for $55. Is drilling required? It looks like it only uses a hole on each side and no middle:

The visors in our Mk1 look like those shown in Jay's photographs.

EDIT: BTW, what did you do about the relay on the firewall? Did you find the two holes I mentioned that should have been on the gusset next to the brake MC?

Jay,

Those look like the same visors as in the TR4A. Mine were in decent shape except the color but paint fixed that.

Yes I found the holes. Thank you. Now I just need to figure out what I did with the heater core bolts.

I removed the "sacks of saw dust" (I read that somewhere as a description of the sunvisors in a GT6) and put in a 5 panel Wink Mirror and some windshield tint strip. Works great for me.

Part numbers don't seem to be the same, but that's likely due to very slight differences in color, or mounting brackets, etc. Since the windscreen frames are essentially the same between TR4A and GT6, it's not surprising that the visors are similar.
