GT6 GT6 headers

Well, since a previous post referred to triple Webers ( have a set for my GT6 but have not installed them yet

) I want to add another wrinkle to the discussion. I just received a new GT6 catalog from Rimmers and they show a 6-3-1 stainless header for the GT6

. Who among you have some input on 6-3-1 headers and who has installed them on either a GT6 or TR6? With a complete 2" system w/headers and triple Webers I have to beleive a stock engine would greatly benefit.

BTW, I had a 45DCOE hung on a modified 77 Honda Civic with a 79 EB3 engine and with a Weber tuning book I was able to make that car run great on the street and autocross. There are a few important things to understand with Webers;
1) Float level is CRITICAL,
2) Synchronizing is also VERY important,
3) UNDERSTANDING what the Weber tuning books are trying to tell you is necessary,
4) Tools, some money, and PATIENCE help a LOT,
5) ONE CHANGE AT A TIME and take some notes as to what has happened,
6) All the circuits overlap so changes over here affect things over there.

The other choices are 1) stay stock, 2) spend a BUNCH more money or Kiehens (Jap crap, I can't remember how to spell it!), or 3) do the Webers becuase they are SO cool once you get them right. heck, the bragging rights alone are worth it

Hoo boy, just reread my post. VERY long days, not enough sleep and two glasses of wine

and I screwed up a bunch

. Sorry. But what I TRIED to say

still holds true!

Bob and I have discussed this and we're both looking for the same input on headers. Thanks to Bob for starting this interesting thread.

Lots of folks seem to endorse the Canley Classics 6-3-1 GT6 header, I think it's stainless steel. See it here: https://www.canleyclassics.com/featuredproducts.asp?uid=manifold631

330.87 GBP minus 17.5% VAT equals $489 U.S. at today's exchange rate. Shipping to my address in VA is $107 (60 GBP). That's $596 total for the Canley header, as "David" at Canley told me by Email.

From what I've been able to glean from Triumph web postings, etc., the Canley header fits a stock GT6 engine bay without major mods and significantly increases performance (a free-flow exhaust system is needed for this "extractor" type header, also).

Does anyone have the Canley 6-3-1 header fitted to their GT6? If so, please give us the lowdown: how did it fit? What mods were necessary? What are your performance results? What kind of exhaust system is mated to it?

Thanks!

The Rimmers

catalog shows the same manifold with a complete large bore system including a single silencer in stainless steel

for $713.00 plus shipping. I don't think anyone stateside has this complete system. Spitbits has a system but it's a 6-2-1. I'll shoot an e-mail to Rimmers for s shipping quote

That's a great price.

I've noted that the Canley stock number for this 6-3-1 header begins with "PHX". I wonder if that indicates a Phoenix header?

Maybe it's the same Phoenix as Rimmer Bros. is selling. If so, the header/exhaust deal looks pretty good.

I Emailed Dave at Canley Classics and he says their 6-3-1 header is manufactured by Phoenix and it IS stainless steel.

FYI.

I was sent an e-mail with a PDF file that contained the complete quote. The complete system is 438.95 pounds and the shipping is 90 pounds. As soon as I get moved to K.C. later this month I am going to order this. When I get ready to install the Webers I will do the system at the same time. I put up another post with the dollar equivalent.

Using a conversion factor of 1.7 dollars to the pound is works out to $899.30 including shipping. If they offer a freight free special during the VTR convension I will order then.

Thanks for the assist, but the listing was for a TR6 and the fit for a GT6 is completely different.

I just put a stainless header and exhaust on my 70 GT6, bought from Spit Bits in California, Nigel is great to work with. I have HS6's on my car which need rebuilding, car has a good sound but not to loud and set up was easy to install
