I haven't looked at the web link in the above post but after reading the title of this thread I have to ask... what parts would you want to be fiberglass and why?
On the Mk1 cars all the body seams are external and spot welded. If you replaced a rear wing it would be next to impossible to blend into the body correctly.
I've seen complete fiberglass bonnets before, but like the rear wing, I don't see how you could have a partial fiberglass bonnet. I guess you could have a fiberglass rear hatch and door skins though.
The only fiberglass on my Mk1 is one of the aftermarket tranny tunnels purchased from VB many years ago.
Also, for what it's worth, the Spit/GT6 fenders/wings are relatively lightweight to begin with. If reducing weight is the reason for fibreglass, weight reduction can be accomplished far easier and cheaper in other ways.
If you go with fiberglass fenders, I suggest you make sure you have top quality. We replaced the fenders on my son's TR6 with fiberglass fenders from The Roadster Factory about 15 years ago. They looked perfect for about three or four years, and then they began to develop waves until finally they looked like the last tsunami. They are now replaced with steel again. Hopefully the fiberglass quality has been improved.
i plan to race the car and need more space for wider wheels - also looking at fiberglass front bonnet. i have found a couple of sources but was curious if anyone had done the installation.
