GT6 GT6 Distributor

I don't remember offhand if any of the Spitfires had both vacuum advance and retard,
I don't think they did. Instead they used retarded static timing plus an unusually aggressive vacuum advance curve to get a similar effect (retarded timing at idle, normal timing at cruise). At least that's what my 1970 emissions training booklet says.

Don't want to hijack this thread too much, but after reading the above, and searching on the net, I am getting more confused about the various GT6 distributors. I understand that both Lucas and Delco Remy distributors were used on various GT6's (and Triumphs). I looked at mine and it has AC DELCO stamped on it so I am assuming that is an Delco Remy.
I have read that the GT6's had various Lucas dist models like a 22d and 23d on them.
My question is are all these interchangable??? I know there are differences in the advance systems but in reality could you not swap any of these in??
If that's the case you could also swap in an electronic dist that replaces a 23d, or 45d for that matter???
Am I crazy, way off or just uneducated or simply uniformed???

Thanks

Mikey

Offhand, I don't know of any GT6 that had anything but a Delco distributor, although the Vitesses and TR6s did have Lucas distributors. Any of those could be swapped in and recurved as (if) needed, or you could go for an electronic distributor. Worst case scenario, you could send your tachometer out to be converted to electronic operation (which a number of the gauge repair shops can do, I'm told).

I think some of the overseas GT6's may have had other distributors, at least that's what another forum (in England) said....but who knows how accurate that is.
Anyway thank you so much for helping clear that up for me "oh great yoda".

Mikey
