GT 40 ....History

I read in the paper this morning that production of the GT 40 will stop this year. We knew that it was a short term deal, but one of the big wigs at Ford said that the Shelby Mustang would fill the gap left by the GT. Funny, but even ignoring the $100K price difference, they seem to be different beasts altogether. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

I can't afford either anyway - so they can do what they want with 'em. My $1.50 worth!

Multiple choice test.

This is called:

A) Ivory tower syndrome
B) "Spin"
C) Nonsense
D) All of the above

Answer: "D"

Same as the new T-Bird...it was a limited run...& certain colors were only offered for 1 year

It's still a ford, and not a 1960's one. the 60's was when Ford hit their peek for coolness. IMHO.

Are you sure they weren't talking about a different Shelby? I could have sworn I read somewhere that Ford was considering the Shelby GR1 as the replacement for the GT. I saw this car at the NYC autoshow last year, it was absolutely stunning and it is more akin to the GT in performance, exclusivity, and price.

Ford Shelby GR1

Nice car. They all come with polished aluminum bodies?

Still outta my price range though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I'd seriously doubt that a production version would come with the polished bodywork, but who knows. It would be way cool though if it did, that is until you got a door ding and needed it repaired. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

I was mighty impressed with the Ford GT when it was introduced, but this thing completely blew me away. They had it on a turn table at the show under these irridescent blueish purple lights, which the polished body seemed to capture and magnify. The whole car kind of glowed with this funky otherwordly colored light, like it was radioactive or something. My buddy and I stood there like slack jawed idiots and drooled. The Ford GT was on a turn table not 15 feet away but for a few minutes we forgot that car even existed. One thing I find alarming about it though is the weight, 3900lbs??? Unless thats a misprint, the Ford GT weighs about 3400lbs I think, this is 500 more?

A car like that never goes on a public road... You rent track time, and have fun for an hour or so, then it gets put back into climate controlled storage for the next month or so... and gently rubbed with a soft cloth baby diaper... Ocasionally kissed, and sat in! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Not me. If I owned that car I would drive it until the fenders fell off. Then I'd get some new screws and put them back on again so I could drive some more.

Me too, but.... money..... collector.... Aluminum... limited.... Drool....

Ah, nevermind. I'd drive the wheels off it it too!

Nice, but it'll probably be like the GT.
People with lots of money will put multiple deposits on
many cars,& sell to the high bidders.
