TR2/3/3A Gross jets tr3

This tr3 is kicking my butt. In an effort to make it run well,I decided to replace the Gross jets with the new standard type. I now have fuel pumping out of the over flow on the front carb. My first thought is the 7/16 setting is off, but that’s ok. It seems like too much fuel pressure. It has a very strong pump out. Anyone heard of a stock fuel pump failing by giving too much fuel? Tomorrow I will probably put a pressure reducer on and see what happens or maybe swap out a pump. I wonder if that gas tank slag has plugged up something and causing too much pressure.
 
Did you readjust your float level? The Grose Jets operate at a different level than standard ones.
 
If you've got fuel coming out the vent, it isn't a float level issue! More likely, it's a bit of "welding slag" that got caught in the float valve and blocked it open. Turn the lid upside down, pull the pin for the lever then turn it back over your cupped hand so the valve plunger falls out. Wipe the tip of the plunger with your fingers, blow through the valve. Reassemble and test the valve by blowing into the inlet with your finger on the lever. Should take only the lightest pressure to shut off the flow of air completely. If not, there is a problem with the valve that has to be addressed.

Although new pumps do sometimes put out too much pressure (has it been replaced recently?), it's not likely that the pressure went up in service. There is a spring inside the pump that sets the pressure. Most vacuum test gauges will also read fuel pump pressure, if you want to check it. Should be around 2.5 psi.

I did the opposite in my TR3 to make it better. I was having problems with the modern jets going bad in a year after installation and decided to go with Gross Jets. It's been over 5 years now and absolutely no problems with them. i got a good tip from a friend of mine that use to be a service manager for the local Triumph dealership. He told me to soak them in carb cleaner and then blow them out with compressed air. There were a lot of filings in the bottom of the bowl after soaking them. He said there is a corrosion protection on them from the factory and they aren't cleaned before shipping. Most guys make the mistake of installing them right out of the package and the jets won't seal. I think the setting was 11 mm.
 
The seats were new yesterday from Moss and that was thefirst thing I did was pull tops of and check for something in the seat. The fuelnever came out when I had the Grose jets on, but the plugs kept fouling evenwith a lean mix setting. My thinking was Grose jets were letting fuel slippast. So I thought I would try a new stock system and thing got worse.
The pump is an AC that I rebuilt god knows when. I know itsounds wrong, but it sounds, acts and, feels like the first time a put anelectric fuel pump on without a 2psi regulator.
These new seat have a little piece that is spring loaded onthe end perhaps to helps thing operate smoothly. Either way I am almostconvinced the fuel pump is screwy.
The problem came on sudden like an ignition problem and I replacedeverything there, but no joy.

I had similar symptoms when I rebuilt my SUs and didn't get the float bowl properly vented. How it is vented varies depending on the Carb version.
