OK I know there are those with strong feelings about these, so, be polite.

It seems like some folk HATE them. others have no problem. Currently I have one installed. However, I will be pulling the carb to replace the floats (see my other post). I can change out the grose jet but it is the newest piece of kit I have.

can people tell me why they do or don't like them?

Nothin' wrong with 'em a two-pound hammer won't fix...

They're unreliable. Prone to vibration malfunction, spring fatigue/failure. BAH!

You want to get "Viton" tipped SOLID needles and seats in there.

Are the Viton needles and seats available through regular parts places like Moss or VB? Their catalogs don't say anything about the construction of the needles other than the Grose Jet ones.
 
My experience with grose jets has all been positive, as has the other folks I know around the local LBC community.

When I drove Sprites in high school and college I had ongoing problems with sticky floats and fuel overflowing. Although grose jets may have been around then my usual method of fixing the car then was to do it as cheaply as possible, swap out parts from dead cars, clean and refit, etc.

I believe my TR4A was the first car I put grose jets on, and since then have had them on my big and little Healeys--that would be about about 20 years of driving experience with them, and lo and behold the sticky float problem has never come back, and no other float valve problems as well. Needless to say I like em. I know of at least two other guys who have ran them for the same sort of time period with no probems.

The new viton needle seats may be better as well, don't know, my experience with them is limited, if your grose jet hasn't given you a problem I would put it back in and not worry about it.

So there you go--a second opinion!
 
Weren't there quality control issues for a while, like they were good, then sold out and got cheapened up and problematic and now Moss makes or owns them and they're good again? Read that somewhere recently.
I have them in the SUs I'm "rebuilding" and hope to compare with a Weber (which is on there now).
 
With a Fuel Pressure Regualtor and a Gauge I could watch the pressure drop as soon as I shut the car down. Takes much longer with the standard Valve in there. Also could visibly see fuel leaking from the aire filter if I turned the pump on without the car running. Besides the whole they vibrate and flood out problem while driving spiritly!
