Hi all and thanks Basil for the opportunity to join! Been a fan of British roadsters since the 70's... So much so that back in '78 I purchased a 1970 E-Type Roadster on the cheap, drove it all through college and began a sloooow restoration as time and money would allow. 10 years later I got married, changed jobs and bought a house all in a few months and the Jag was put to sleep in the garage for the next 35 years. Now retired, I got the British bug again and turned back to the Jag, but knowing the time and money needed to get it back on the road seemed daunting.
Plan B... This past January I decided to sell it and acquire another Roadster that I've always had a soft spot for...a TR6! Call me crazy, but moving to a TR6 provided me an opportunity to jump right in an enjoy a true British Roadster immediately. My choice was a 1973 in mallard green, optioned with lower maintenance Minilite style wheels avoiding all the spoke tuning and care of the wires I had on the Jag. I have an automotive background and keeping the Jag on the road required continual upkeep. I'm expecting the TR6 will allow for more time on the road and less time under the bonnet, and it affords me the opportunity to pass the TR6 down to my son and eventual grandkids who won't require an automotive degree to maintain!
Now I'm not much for naming cars, but the wife fell in love with the Mallard Green and immediately christened it 'Ducky' as an homage to the late David McCallum who played the intrepid Dr. 'Ducky' Mallard on NCIS...
As Ducky sits, (he/she/it) hovers between Good and Excellent condition. The few minor flaws will only encourage me to tinker during the coming warm summer days, and as needed, allow me to take a spin to the local Ace Hdwe. without fear. Something you just couldn't do with the E-Type...
Thanks again, and I look forward to sharing updates, and all the tech info and recommendations from other members as I learn to sort out the bits and pieces on Ducky!
Better pics coming as the weather clears and I hit the open road...
