Bought my 1st, and possibly best, car in '65. It was a 61 Bugeye, $400. Didn't quite know the value, and gave it away when drafted in '69.

Never thought I would have another. Thoughtful wife bought a '61 basket case as a gift in about '84 that has sat in a friends barn ever since. Hope to start total rebuild this winter.

2 years ago, on a whim, (she says mid-life crisis) I bought a '78 Midget in reasonable condition, virtually no rust. Except for down time for planned maintenance, it has been my daily driver. I am a helicopter mechanic, and have learned to hate working of "normal" cars. But, Midget has put the fun back into wrenching.

Have gone thru many items including changing from California low compression pistons to 9:1 pistons and very mild cam, rod and main bearings, got rid of all environmental crap, already had Webber, clutch was nearly new, installed new clutch servo, universal joints, brake hoses, HD stabilizer bar, fulcrum pin kit and poly bushings, and a bunch of little stuff like belt, hoses, brushes, etc. Runs quite good.

I will go to regular forum and ask questions about things it still needs. Carpet and sound deadening are non-existing and badly needed. Although brake pads/shoes and drums/discs and hydraulics are in good shape, stopping is poor. Needs rear springs and front shocks.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome - guess I don't need to tell you your wife's a keeper, huh?

Vietnam vet?

Yea, I knew she was a keeper before she bought the bugeye. She is also a helicopter mechanic. Pretty tough to find a female that talks oil filters and crankshafts.

And to the Great Pumpkin; yes, F Troop, 8th Air Cav, Scout, based at Marble Mountain (DaNang) and BenHoi.
