TR2/3/3A Grease fitting access on front driveshaft TR3A

Has anyone else had problems getting a grease gun tip on to the fitting on the front driveshaft? The one that you can get to from within the car under the rubber blank behind the shifter? I have tried with three grease guns and it seems that they are just a little too thick to make a good connection to the grease fitting. I will think that I have it on there and then see the grease oozing everywhere but into the fitting. I thought I had it made when I came across a needle attachment that is made for greasing seals without grease fittings but I only succeeded in breaking the needle off. I also began to grin down one of the grease gun
tips but I lost patience after a few tries and still could not get it on tightly. Is there any such thing as a temporary sort of fitting that would protrude more out of the joint (just be longer in length) to give me the clearance I need. I have not seen any at my local auto store.

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee

You can get longer grease fittings. I referenced my catalog from work and I see them up to 1 5/8". As you said, I would only use it on a temporary basis.
You can also get thin nosed couplers.
One other thing you might try, if you haven't already. Put your jackstands under the rear axle to keep the pinching at the u joint to a minimum. Turn the shaft to see if you can get a better angle.
