Not a grandfather nor a father. But from 1970 to 1974 I "detoured" my civilian photojournalism career ambitions to join the USAF and became part of the Aerospace Audiovisual Service. What now is called: "Combat Camera." This article mentions some of the folks in AAVS and their experiences, from the early part of the organization, on to the end of the war. The training and missions described were part and parcel of the job. By the time I got there, I was part of a "second wave" of sorts, a designated photojournalist. Official title was "Aerial Combat Documentation Photographer," spared the duties of the "grip-n-grin" guys of Base Photo labs.
