Got to see this

One of my favorite Top Gear spots (for obvious reasons). Nice to see the little Bugeye driven flat out.

@ 130hp it ought to do well!
What was stock HP on a 59, 53hp or something? 130hp BE would be something, and it sounded beautiful.

It is such a happy little car.

42HP (or then there abouts) on a stock 948 Bugeye.

Few folks around here running well over 100 HP. And I will one day. When all else is complete.

A reliable 130 hp from, even the "big" 1275 is a TALL order. That's where the race engines live, for maybe 10 to 20 hours.

Fun stuff!! Hmmm. now if we stuffed that pretty little blown Buick V6 from the Grand Am into the bugeye (I mean, a 3 litre Peugot?? at least the bugeye had a stock-based engine)! We could probably go after MRXs and such, AND that cave behind the seats WOULD make a VERY nice sub-woofer echo-chamber to help blow them off the road with, (but where would we put the rest of the speaker array, vid gear, game consoles and such?) Nah! All those magnets on the back of all those speakers would probably double the weight of a Bugeye anyway!

I agree, 130 is race stuff, but a bit over a 100 is very doable according to the book and should last quite a while.

Just by looking at the car, it is no were near stock.

Fiberglass bonnet, weber carb, looking at the front susp it is set up to go around corners very quickly. This car is setup for hillclimb.

I think if the other car had a better susp ( not just for show ) I think it may be a different ballgame.

I agree that the car is not stock. But I'm not a purist and have no problems with enhancements!! I also have been around "little" british cars all my life and love the fact that this one beat the tuner/ Its just too clean.....

Lame 'Tuner'....Too much Show, not enough GO...hahaha

O believe me I am not against non stock cars. Mine is no were near stock also. Just pointing out if the tuner car had a race suspension I think it would have turned out differently. But I will always be on the side of the sprite, there just more fun to drive.

But the point is he could have had a better suspension, he just CHOSE to have one that went up and down and silly stuff like that instead of stuff that helps it go, like the Sprite owner did. He did say he had a 3 liter engine (almost 3x the Sprite displacement!) How much handling or speed did the video games add? Maybe he lost coz he was playin games or fiddlin with the stereo!! Ah, but itwas all in fun. I liked seeing the two groups, but they should have joined each other at the Pub afterwards, now that would be fun to watch!!
