So I'm driving home in the TD, and on a 4-lane road in town, a guy in a new(ish) Porsche Carrera decides to (enthusiastically) demonstrate how much quicker his car is than mine. My reaction was, "BFD. Yeah, your car is quicker. You beat a 56-year-old car that wasn't even trying to race you. So what? My car is still boatloads cooler!" Moron.

Haha, yep, got to consider the source.

That's ok, if you see him in a parking lot showing off his car, park right next to him and steal his thunder. Who was it who told the story about the two Ferraris parked next to his MG (MGA I think) during a sprots car run. When two ladies walked by, they said loudly, "Glad to see someone around here has a REAL car!" Apparently the Ferrari guys wouldn't talk to the MG owner the rest of the day.

ROFLMAO!

There's a guy at work who drives a new Lotus Elise. Right after I got the TD I took an opportunity to park beside him. When I came out from work at the end of the day, he had put his business card in the seat with the words, "Sweet car!" written on it.

The Top Guy at work drives a new Ford GT. I haven't parked beside it yet.... ;-)

Good stuff.

The IT Director at work bought a loaded BMW Z3 as his new toy. He always parks it at the far end of the lot, so one day I decided to park the MG in his spot before he got to work. He comes storming in to my "cube" later in the day shouting "HEY! You parked in my spot!!" and then tells me "that is one GREAT looking car you have there." Now every time I see him in the hallway talking to someone he tells them "Can you believe that guy parked in my spot?" It was a great ice breaker and we always talk cars now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have seen early 90's Porsche's being offered for less then 6 grand up here lately.
What kind of value does a 50 year old TD fetch? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I would imagine worth a LOT more then the Porsche.

I spoke with a woman recently whose husband has lost $80,000 in depreciation of all the new cars he's bought in recent years. If I were to sell my cars, I would probably pocket $40,000 in profit. Not that I'm ever gonna sell so it's a moot issue.

At school, I have had the owner of a very clean first gen RX-7 and the owner of a battered 944 tell me "nice car." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the other hand...

The first day I drove my MG to school, a kid whose parents had just bought him a brand new Cobalt the previous evening made a point to do a "burnout" in front of my parking spot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Heck, he didn't have to pay for the tires.

There is more to life than unnatural G forces, raw acceleration and having to remove the engine to change plugs or adjust the valves...but then you guys know all about that. LOL

Jack

Rob... when did you get a TD? That's so cool! I hope I get to see it sometime before too many months go by!

Theres two Ferrari's on my street....a 355 Spyder(yellow) and a 550(black), but whenever someone has a car problem you know who's door step their at!

Rob, that's too funny.

HOW the heck have you been? How's Wrennie?

yeah, but he's driving a wannabe ricer car... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Not only that but screeching front tires just doesn't have the same effect as smoking rear tires. Not that our RB B's can smoke their tires. Ah, why bother...

At least the guys with "real sports cars" gave ya props /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif I suspect the RX7 guy and the 944 guy know more about cars in general than captain Cobolt. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Next time 'Captain Cobalt' does that point to your convertible top in the down position, smile and motor away. These cars are not always about all out performance but the fun we have while driving them.

yea...now if only I can convince the plastic surgeon down the street that my antique 74 MGB and his classic 85 Ferrari 308GTSI is a good even up trade, I would be thrilled /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Forget it; I lusted after a 308 for years and was serious about one until I did the maintenance math.

For the cost of a tuneup you could BUY an MGB. Last time I checked, a set of plug wires was ~$550; an alt runs about ~$900! You don't even want to know about cambelts and they need replacing about every 20k. Ouch.

Drove one once.....What a turd.

Think the TD could burn it off.
(And that was an early fiberglass one)

Also....Couldn't get over the weird driving position.

Should have bought it though....They went up a lot $$$
