working on a 1098 motor and on the block, where the oil pump bolts, is a small hole on the bottom. the oil pump has a cutout on the bottom of it and the only purpose it seems to me is to allow oil to collect in the cutout housing in the transmission adapter plate. my transmission adapter plate did not sit 100% flush against the gasket on the back of the block, so it leaked a bit. i beat the steal plate as flat and as flush as i can get it, but my question is, would it be okay to press fit a small alluminum plug in that hole as a little added insurance? has anyone else had this problem?

here is a link to what i'm talking about. it's the small half-moon cut out on the bottom.

here

thanks very much
