Got a Whole New Electrical Problem

I can start Molly and stand outside but, as soon as I sit down the ignition light comes on. Any ideas!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Need more information. I can only assume that this does not happen when there is no key in the ignition switch. Is the key in the on or run position when this happens? Is the car running or off at this time?

Is there a short or crosswire with the 'fasten seat belt' circuit? If sitting down is the key, what else would there be that goes crazy with sitting down?

Check the connectors to make sure they are secure and clean. What year is your car? Does it have the seat belt buzzer switches in the seats?

Thanks for the responses. The car is a 1977 model. The problem happens when the engine is running. As long as no one is in the drivers seat the ignition light stays off. When you sit in the drivers seat the ignition light comes on. I feel I am safe in assuming that the charging system is not working when the light is on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

it's working... just not enough to prevent the light from coming on. Thing is, that switch that is associated with the Driver's seat is "closed" with someone in the seat and "Open" with noe one in the seat. So, you more than likely have a problem with the switch shunting to ground when someone gets in the car. You can get a new switch, disassemble clean and reassemble the current switch, or just unplug and remove the switch to resolve the issue.

Personally, I dislike all buzzy things in my car. So I unplugged the switch and got rid of it. DPO maneuver? Maybe, depending on how you look at it, but I don't plan on selling my B anytime soon and happen to like not having the buzzy thing.

Sounds like you may have just given me the key to solving this problem. I'll disconnect the switch first thing tomorrow and see what happens. If this fixes my little problem then with the parts I've got ordered from Tony I'll have Molly "B" ready for some road trials. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Also, if it is the seat belt buzzer, and that alone is enough to bring on the alternator light, you may want to look at your alternator output. Seems a little low.

Thanks I'll check that also. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Disconnected the seatbelt sesor under the seat and now the ignition light no longer comes on. Many Thanks!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Hope you disconnected the ejection seat wire as well, that could be embarsing.
